Forget Romeo and Juliet. For alt-rockers virtually monday, to really feel ‘alive again,’ they should discover a love like Justin and ‘Hailey Beebs,’ and so they scour everywhere in the metropolis for it.
At the beginning of virtually monday’s “Hailey Beebs” video, frontman Dawson Daugherty is on a mission. With a powder-blue go well with, shaggy hair, and metal willpower, Dawson goes in search presumably for the lady who makes him really feel alive the identical approach the titulary Hailey Bieber makes her beau, Justin Bieber, sparkle at any time when she walks into the room. “High socks ’til your knees / Just like Hailey Beebs,” sings Dawson, amid pictures of his bandmates – guitarist Cole Clisby and bassist Luke Fabry – enjoying alongside. “You’re the one I’m chasing / I don’t care no more, I’ll be at your door / Waiting to run to you, baby.”
Shot on 16mm movie of their hometown of San Diego and directed by good friend Jack Revell, per Paper, the video captures the grit and ennui that comes at 2 AM. When Dawson hangs his head out of his Uber, the evening’s air blasting by way of his hair, there’s a tangible sense of longing. There is one thing incomplete with Dawson as he makes his David Bryne-esque herky-jerky motions in a go well with seemingly impressed by Stop Making Sense. That feeling is rarely extra evident than within the downtrodden look as he stumbles alongside the crosswalk, wrapped up in his personal emotions whereas Luke and Cole jam on.
It’s a low-key, lo-fi affair that captures a punk spirit. It’s the proper companion to the track, which the band tells Paper is about “taking a good relationship you once had and wishing you could go back and do it over again,” very like how Justin first dated Hailey in 2015, break up in 2016, after which reunited along with her in 2018. “I wrote your name on the wall,” sings Dawson. That optimism for a cheerful ending within the face of grim actuality, hoping to see the solar when there’s no mild within the early morning, is deftly wrapped inside this track. With intelligent lyrics — “Miss you, I can feel the withdrawal / You’re something I believe in / Time melts into nothing at all” – and an enthralling alt-rock sound that’s each traditional and contemporary, virtually monday have delivered a rock ballad good for this second in time.
“hailey beebs” is a style of virtually monday’s forthcoming undertaking. The band launched their debut EP, don’t say you’re unusual, in 2020. Despite arriving smack dab within the center of the pandemic, the discharge constructed an enormous buzz, with its first single, “broken people,” touchdown them within the Top 20 spot on Alternative Radio.
