The film is being directed by Enrico Casarosa, who has directed Pixar’s 2011 short film La Luna about a young man who helps his father and grandfather collect stars. Andrea Warren will serve as the film’s producer.
“This is a deeply personal story for me, not only because it takes place on the Italian Riviera where I grew up, but because the film is a celebration of friendship. Childhood friendships usually define the path of who we want to become and it is these bonds that are in the center of our history in Luca, “Casarosa said in a statement, according to Variety’s story.
Luca was planned to open in theaters in November 2020, but was eventually postponed to 2021 due to the coronavirus.
