Yes, after years of enjoying up Street Fighter‘s relationship with Final Fight, Capcom appears to be centering Street Fighter 6‘s story round that beloved, and all-but-forgotten, online game collection. Of course, that relationship between these two franchises has been constructing for fairly a while now.
The Initial Fight
After Street Fighter got here out in 1987, Capcom determined to present the sport a contemporary follow-up. No, not 1991’s revolutionary Street Fighter II. At least not initially. Instead, they began work on a recreation referred to as Street Fighter ’89, which was going to have Ryu and Ken battle alongside one another in opposition to waves of enemies. Over time, they determined that it simply wasn’t Street Fighter sufficient and adjusted the plot, characters, and title.
That undertaking as a substitute grew to become Final Fight: the story of the Mad Gear Gang’s try to kidnap the mayor’s daughter, Jessica, within the hopes that the mayor will lastly get off their backs. Unfortunately for them, the mayor was a former skilled wrestler and an absolute beast of a person, Mike Haggar. Haggar, alongside Jessica’s boyfriend Cody and their ninja pal Guy, take to the streets of Metro City to save lots of Jessica, beat folks with pipes, and eat total roasted chickens off the bottom.
Final Fight acquired two sequels for SNES, and whereas they nonetheless weren’t named after Street Fighter, it was quickly obvious that the 2 franchises shared one continuity. Even as early as Street Fighter II, it was established that Soviet grappler Zangief was a longtime wrestling rival of Haggar’s (which neatly explains their tendency to do the identical strikes).
The Street Fighter Alpha Series
Street Fighter Alpha successfully served as the center floor between the primary two Street Fighter video games. As a sub-series partially devoted to worldbuilding, the primary Alpha recreation launched Guy and Final Fight second-level boss Sodom as playable characters. Street Fighter Alpha 2 even introduced in fellow Final Fight boss character, Rolento. With Street Fighter Alpha 3, Cody was playable, albeit in a brand new type. Turns out that after saving the day and rescuing Jessica, Cody went down a darkish path, couldn’t cease entering into fights, and ended up in jail for his antics.
The connection even led to the penultimate episode of the Street Fighter Saturday morning animated collection, “Final Fight,” the place Ryu and Ken helped Haggar, Cody, and Guy clear up the streets of Metro City by going undercover and becoming a member of the Mad Gear gang.
