Disney announced the decision to postpone the premieres of the new Star Wars and Avatar, the first being a new production away from the finished Skywalker saga, and the second the sequel to James Cameron’s blockbuster. Mulan was another film taken from the premiere calendar in 2020.
According to Variety, Star Wars will premiere around Christmas time in 2023, inaugurating a new trilogy. A second and third films arrive on December 19, 2025 and December 17, 2027, respectively.
Avatar in turn will return in 2022, showing itself every two years at the same time, Avatar 2 opens on December 16, 2022, Avatar 3 on December 20, 2024, Avatar 4 to December 18, 2026 and Avatar December 5 to 22, 2028.
Mulan, the live action adaptation of the Disney classic, was also the subject of rescheduling, but unlike the first postponement, Mickey Mouse’s company was unable to announce a new concrete date, it only removed the film from the premiere calendar in 2020.
