Original Keanu Reeves audition for Bill & Ted

The Wyld Stallyns, the best band ever, formed by friends Bill Preston and Ted Logan, takes their first steps in casting tests for the famous comedy Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure, by director Stephen Herek, which contributed to boost the career of Keanu Reeves, who exhibited an undeniable chemistry with teenage partner Alex Winter.

The two were never able to hire Eddie Van Halen to play guitar at the Wyld Stallyns, but it was not for lack of commitment, as revealed by a recent video published by the Daily Mail, which received videos from someone in possession of the original audition tapes. Filming is very fun not only because it shows a very young Keanu and Alex, but because we can see two versions with the roles reversed, an unprecedented sample and where it is possible to perceive the undeniable talent of the two actors.

The film would prove to be a success, receiving sequels that extended until the recent Bill & Ted Face the Music, by director Dean Parisot, and an example of how fate sometimes takes care of things for the best .

During Comic Con International, Ed Solomon and Chris Matheson reported that when they created Bill and Ted, they played the characters themselves in a comedy sketch they prepared before the film. When they agreed to finance the production, they didn’t like the idea of allowing the studio to handle the casting. They supposedly saw Reeves and Winter playing in a McDonald’s queue, and remembered regretting that the studio was never going to hire someone like that. Eventually they found us again during the casting process, and the rest is history.
